Question by LilEeyore: wedding invitations: did you order yours or DIY?
Just wondering. I know a few other brides who are getting married soon too & one didn’t even KNOW you could buy kits & print them yourself!
I bought mine at Michaels. a box of 50 was on clearance for $ 4.99!! They are exactly what I wanted too I was STOKED when I saw them so I bought the last 3 boxes. PERFECT ammount! (has the invites, the envelopes, the rsvp card & envelopes)
My fiance is a graphic designer so he’s printing them @ his work including the envelopes & making the direction sheets to go in them.
We are doing it ourselves & did some researching to find the wording we wanted for invites & rsvps.
I can’t believe the cost of some of this stuff I see online!!
Especially since I know from a business side of it how much it *really* costs to print some stuff.
Some of them are gorgeous though!!! I’ll give them that! ![]()
totally forgot to mention…
A friend had vellum she never used and went perfectly with the invite! we measured it & cut it, got a hole punch & ribbon we found for $ 1 each thing of it.. & it matched perfectly!
My matron of honor is finishing them up for me this week (says it’ll give her somethign to do while she’s bored @ work LOL)
I’ll have to show you a picture when they’re done.

I tried the Micheals kit, but they are difficult to print on a home printer, the damn things would not print straight no matter what we did. We ended up having very simple ones printed at Kinkos it came to around $ 50 for 150 people, but it was far better than what all the companies wanted to charge us.

DIY and everyone loved it.
Everyone commented about how adorable our home made invite was!
We kept it really simple and elegant…and I think everyone thought that was great – rather than the scented, frilly, lovey dovey, formal invites that people are used to!
I am not sure what I am going to do. I love a lot of the DIY kits but I am not sure on what kind of wedding I want yet either. I am either going for a small beach wedding or a wedding at this really nice plantation house I found.
I prefer DIY. They’re usually more creative and somehow more beautiful. And who doesn’t love a good deal?
I printed my own. I know photoshop, so I just made little cards, printed them on 8.5×11 cardstock, then cut them. On the first card, I added a brown card for a little border and tied a little paper leaf on with ribbon.
Here’s a pic of them:

I was pretty happy with how they turned out. They would have been really cheap, but I figured out how much paper I needed wrong somehow, and ended up with 3 times as much as I needed…..oops.
my indian mother in law, and sister in law have made them…theyre three layers. One layer of printed carrd with the details on then, then a layer of sari fabric, then a layer of fine organza, with a beaded trim and our names embroidered on it.
They went to so much trouble, but they wouldnt take no for an answer! Theyre also making place cards, and meal menus the same way
Im sure someone could recreate them with their own fabric and a custom made stamp really easily.
My husband and I made our own. We also got the kits from Michael’s and then had his cousin, who is a graphic designer work with us to get them exactly how we wanted them! We printed our engagement picture on the paper and then printed the words on the velum part, then punched the holes and put it together with ribbons in our wedding colors. We also attached a dangling heart from the ribbons because my engagement ring has a dangling heart and we included it in some of our wedding details.
Kudos to you for making your own, too! Good luck with all of your planning!
Good for you!!!!
We did the same thing. We had to go to 3 Michael’s stores and we got all the ones we needed. Same price as you!
Then we had Office Depot print them out for us on their copiers.
Sure saves time and money!

DIY!!!!!! we did ours and they came out great!!!!! they were more personal and meaningful!!!!!
some printshops will charge you an arm and a leg for something so simple and at times you have a limit on what you can do. This is one of the most important days of your life and i dont think there should be any limits!!!!! If you want something done right sometimes you have to do them yourself lol…..
